The First Coed Naked Shirt I Ever Owned (Stole)

Since our relaunch of Coed Naked in the summer of 2022 it has been great to hear all the reminiscing on social media from our early fans about the Coed Naked shirts, they once owned during the 90’s. Not only do most remember the designs, but they also remember the catch phrases. It’s amazing how Coed Naked touched so many lives.

All of this reminiscing reminded me of the first Coed Naked shirt I ever owned or maybe borrowed or likely just stole. I was a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire, in 1986, and I believe I was home for Thanksgiving. My brother Don was wearing a “Boston College Coed Naked Lacrosse” shirt, with a catch phrase “Rough Tough and in the Buff.” I had never seen a Coed Naked shirt before. I loved it. It was unique. It was funny. It was cool. I had to have it. As luck would have it, my mother did our laundry while we were home and happened to fold that shirt into my pile. I pretended not to see it there and thus took it back to campus with me. I officially owned (stole) my first Coed Naked tee. I still own this shirt today.

What I did not realize at the time was how that Coed Naked shirt would symbolize and impact the rest of my life. Four years later, after graduating from UNH in 1990, I would briefly go to work for the guy who started Coed Naked. In September of 1990 myself and two partners bought the Coed Naked trademark from him. I would eventually hire my brother Don in 1992 to help jumpstart the sales of Coed Naked to retailers across the country. Thanks in large part to Don’s efforts, we would eventually sell over 10 million Coed Naked shirts to over 12,000 retail locations throughout the 1990’s making it arguably the most iconic tee of the decade.

The relaunch of Coed Naked in 2022 has not only rekindled the line with our original generation of fans, but it has also caught fire with the college crowd of today. We thank all our fans both from the 90’s and today.
